My Bamboo Plant

I don't have a green thumb but I do have my very own bamboo plant. This picture was taken with my new Canon 50D on August 5, 2009. Let me give you some background on this bamboo plant. This plant was given to me by a Korean couple on February 3, 2007. The Korean couple was in California to celebrate their son's wedding to my friend Stacey Yoon. It was an all Korean wedding. It was my third Korean wedding. I was the DJ for the wedding reception. The reception was held at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California. It is my understanding that it is good luck in asian cultures to have a bamboo plant. I could be wrong but it is something close to that. I have never had my own plant prior to this bamboo plant. I check this plant every day when I come home from work. Bamboo is pretty low maintenance. All I do is make sure it has enough water and light. When it gets thirsty I give it more water. I haven't had any conversations with this bamboo plant yet but I probably should because it seems really cool! Click on the picture for a larger version.

7th Wedding Anniversary

Today my brother Jeffrey McFerson is celebrating his seventh wedding anniversay to Alison Gibby. They were married on August 10, 2002 in the Los Angeles Temple. They have three boys: Ian James McFerson (born: August 22, 2004), Hyde Kimball McFerson (born: October 7, 2005) and Leif William McFerson (born: August 10, 2007). My brother has a really great family. This picture was taken on May 24, 2006 when Jeffrey graduated from California State University Long Beach.

1973 or 1974

This is me as a little kid. I think this picture was taken when I was in First Grade or Second Grade which makes the year 1973 or 1974. This picture of my picture was taken in low light conditions with my new Canon 50D DSLR. I keep this picture of myself on my dresser to remind myself every day how lucky I am to be alive. By the way, that is an authentic Hang Ten shirt I'm wearing (it was the 1970's!).

Two Random Thoughts For You

Random Thought Number One:

I heard recently that the intake of anti-depressant medication in the United States has doubled. What?! I have never understood the need for anti-depressants. I have never tried them. I will never try them. What are they supposed to do? Do they make you less depressed or not depressed at all? Are the people who take them really depressed? If so, why? Do their lives suck that bad that they have to pop pills to deal with their issues? I think the anti-depressant thing is a complete money making scam perpetuated on the suckers in this country. The real winners are the the pharmaceutical companies. These companies laugh all the way to the bank (it's a billion dollar industry). I would laugh too if I could make a ton of money by developing pills that would make you think you were less depressed. Hey, if you are depressed find the root of the problem and fix it now. Get happy and stay away from these horrible chemicals that your body and mind don't need.

Random Thought Number Two:

The government's newest wreck - Cash For Clunkers. Washington has already screwed this up and now they need more money to keep the program alive. I find it hilarious that the same government that can't get Cash For Clunkers right also wants to completely overhaul our health care system! You can't make this stuff up! I swear our government is full of complete morons (well, they are virtually all lawyers with no business experience at all). Hey Uncle Sam, just abandon Cash For Clunkers on the side of the road. Quit taking my tax dollars to pay for another stupid idea.

My First DSLR

Today I received my first DSLR. I am the proud owner of a Canon 50D and an EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. After at least one year of intense camera and photography research I have finally made up my mind and decided to lay down the dough. The total damage is a little more than $1600. I have been DJ'ing a lot lately so this purchase is completely off the books. After messing around with this camera for about two hours today I can say that I made the right decision and my research paid off! Immediately I took some pictures that looked like they could be in a magazine. The bokeh achieved with this lens is astonishing. I am so excited about this camera. I can't wait to start taking great pictures with this camera! I will posting cool pictures on this blog from now on (once I figure out how to download them to my computer!).
